In July we're off to sunny, hot and financially floundering Greece. I'm beyond looking forward to our annual summer in the sun. Mama needs a tan and a holiday beyond badly. We're a part of some special events while there including the baptism of our good friends daughter. We're going to be her God-parents and for Greeks this is a super HUGE deal because God-parents (Koumbari) are like family forever.
Greek baptisms are a major production. A big event in a child's life that is celebrated with the same enthusiam as a wedding. Hundreds of guests and huge reception-dinner after parties are completely standard. Many people spare no expense and hire professional photographers, have lavish dinners, live music and bring in entertainers or clowns to keep the kids occupied so the adults can drink and dance the night away. It's a good time.

But as the God-Mother (Nona) what am I going to wear? A lot of the women in Greece are as fabulous as they are glamourous and I need to look great while still dressing appropriately for the church. I'm torn between 3 dresses that I have and honestly none of them really excite me. My practical side says don't go too crazy and that I should wear something sensible that will look good in photos 20 years from now.
I'll pair the black dresses with black patent heels and the pink and grey dress with nude heels. And of course I'll accessorize (heavily) and have on enough makeup to pass for a drag queen for it to last all day in the heat.
Which dress would you choose or should I go for something completely different?
Help a sister out...I'm totally open to suggestions!

I love the first dress! I can't tell you why it ruled over the others. I just think it is so fresh and modern. That's my pic!
I also love the first one - it's such a sophisticated but modern look, love it!

first one first one!! love it :)
simple and sophisticated. so jealous of your trip!
I adore the 2nd dress. It looks elegant and yet fun. Wear that one!!
Some friends of mine are friends with a Greek family and I heard all about their baptism. It was insane! My friend is the Godfather and his present was a really expensive Rolex! You really do go all out and I think it's wonderful (and so fun)!
I'm so jealous you're going to Greece!! I think I told you I went about 10 years ago and loved it. What a beautiful magical place. Esp. Mikonos and Santorini. :-)
Ok sorry for the long post. You're going to have so much fun and look so pretty in that 2nd dress.
I vote for the second dress. It's gorgeous.
I am so envious of your summer plans...I was thinking about you while watching the Greek finance mess on the tube last night. I hope you are steering clear of any financial and government centers.
Will you be blogging from Greece? I would love to see more pictures!
i want to go to a lavish 'party' like this ;-)
and i am usually not a huge fan of the simple black dresses, but it is definitely my fav of the three and i think it is going to look amazing on you!!!
I am voting for the black one. I know you will accessorize and look fabulous in all that!!!! And it is timeless...we know that. I am so excited for ya'll. Greece is ON THE TOP of "my" list. I wanna be there so badly....hmmm....wonder if I could fit in your suitcase!?! Nah...probably not. Have a great time!!!
I think that second dress would look amazing on you!
Wow, those parties look so lavish! Make sure you take lots of pics.
Hello, I love your blog. The black dress is amazing, BUT when I became a nona my dress was covered in oil stains due to the ritual. So my tip would be focus on your hair, make up and try not to drop the baby.filia
Love the first one and the black!both of them are gorgeus for a baptism!!And you'll look glamorous!I'm sure hun
this year i am gonna be at a baptism too!! i am so so excited??
can you speak dreek?
i am greek too!!
watch my blog!
xoxo
i like all three... but...
i always associate wearing black to church for mourning, which this is clearly the opposite of. so i would save this one for a night on the town.
the first one is is very stylish, but the one shoulder design is definitely something that will come and go with time. save this one for night on the town too.
the second dress is perfect for a baptism because it has a pattern, which means you won't be able to see if it gets dirty. plus, the cut of the neck is very flattering and feminine. and i think it's the best suited for church. i vote for dress #2!!
I think I'm alone here but I was going to say 3...all are beautiful but 3 is timeless :)
Your blog look fabulous! Glad I found it. Following you...
