Hoarding issues?

So we as women all manage to buy and collect a lot of beauty and makeup related products. But what happens when they start to take over - your countertop, your bathroom, your life!?
Like most areas of my home I try to minimize the clutter and purge the stuff I don't need to prevent pile-ups of unused junk. Easy enough right? No one likes a hoarder.  But when it comes to beauty products I have such a hard time tossing the unused products.
What if I suddenly run out of Coconut scented body lotion, I have 3 back ups. What if there's world wide shortage of extreme-hold hair spray? I'm covered with multiple extra cans. It's the fear of maybe/possibly/someday needing to use the extra products.

Are all these products really necessary? No.  So why can't I minimize and toss?

Under the sink mess assortment of products
(A box of nursing pads and ovulation test kits from 3 years ago...there's just no excuse for keeping those?)

Srsly, so what's my deal?  I go to throw out the products I'm not using then I"ll see that it's practically brand new and it would be so wasteful to throw it away. I just can't do it.  I might want to use it someday, just not in the immediate, foreseeable future or ever really.  But what "if"?

Do you have trouble parting with things that you might someday need even though you never use them? Am I just being thrifty and practical or am I on my way to needing an intervention or making an appearance on TLC's "Hoarding, Buried Alive?

Okay, I'm intervening! This is a lot of stuff! lol I say get rid of the breast pads and ovulation kits unless you plan on having another child. And toss anything you haven't used in the past year, it's probably bad any way. It'll be tough but you can do it!

You make a very good point here!!! I am really challenging myself to deal with my clutter as well. I am trying not to buy new products within the same cateory until I run out of another (so no new hairspray until all my hairspray is done). My major "clutter" category is hair products. Actually, I am going to sort through tonight and find more that i can just toss.

I have a lot of makeup, but I usually don't have a problem just using up, disposing, and re-purchasing all my other products one at a time.
LOL at the multiple products of the same thing. Do you just forget you have them, do you think? Maybe you can donate them to a woman's shelter, I'm sure they'd be happy to have them all.

im actually laughing pretty hard because it seems like you and i suffer from the same disorder.

this past weekend i went to clean out my entire closet of "Product", and threw away an entire shopping bag full of stuff. that was IT. i just couldnt vouch for throwing away bottles of shampoo (who cares if i hated it), bottles of lotion that i dont use EVER (but like you, i have plenty of backups), or hairsprays. i do not have any hello kitty bubble bath, however. :-)

i might have to do a post like this sometime. maybe announcing my hoarding problem publicly will make me feel compelled to trash some things!

PS- whatever song u have on the ipod thing on here is A-m-a-z-i-n-g! im going to find it on iTunes. LOL

Lol, you are my hero! Can I come shopping at your house! It's times like this when we bloggers need to be neighborhood girlfriends that can swap and share beauty products! What better way to test out new goodies!!! Don't throw anything out! Keep what's important to you and pass other items on to a friends that you can swap and test with! What fun!! :)

OMG this is crazy!!!!! Ask yourself what this real estate is worth to you!

Get some clear bins that can stack...they sell shoe sized ones in wallies...go through it and anything that is brand new, organize it in the bins and anything that has been used but not used in the last year, get rid of it. Go in the bathroom with a garbage bag.

Label the bins and when you run out of something, look in the bins to see if you have another one before buying more.

This will let you clean up and make use of vertical space in the cupboard....you might even get to keep your TP in there too!

Lol!! Sounds exactly like me! I have a very hard time getting rid of "stuff" because SOMEDAY I might need it! I just need to get a trash bag, close my eyes, and dump it!!! That could work, right?

Okay, we are officially the same person!! I am the EXACT same way! I have bags and bags and bags of makeup from the past ten years of products I know in my heart I will never use, but I can't bring myself to toss. Like you, I think "what if I need that some day?!" Sigh.

This was hilarious! Love it:-) I am a big believer in not buying new until I use up the old . . . unless I accidentily toss it so I can buy lol. I don't like clutter tho I'm kinda OCD lol.

I have a similar problem with beauty products, I'm not sure why. I think it's something to do with thinking it would be a waste to throw things away and that surely I'll get around to using them eventually. The only way is to be brutal, and throw out the things you haven't used in the last six months.

Hello!
I must admit it happens pretty much the same to me, although I am not a backup person...
Why don't you organize a blog sale with all the stuff you do not use or you have replacement for?

Like a lot of women here I have the same problem. I can't throw anything away unless it's empty. Even lotion I hate!

lol this looked like my bathroom before i moved and had to get rid of a lot of it. maybe you could combine half empty bottles into whole ones and organize them under your sink or put them in a storage room with a labeled box? it must be fun to decide on what to use for the day! ;)

lol that is a LOT of stuff! I'm like that with my clothes, I think ohh I'll wear it one day, or what if one day I need a lime green sweater, i can't throw this out. haha. I gave a lot of my body stuff to my sisters so I dion't feel guilty- if she throws it out it's not me who throw it out!
